Victorian Cornet, 1890 - 1905, Riviere & Hawkes, London, Excelsior Class, No. 2755, with mounthpiece and sheet holder, original, 34.5 cms x 18 cms x 13 cms, height excludes sheet holder, condition: very good.
This numbered item would have been played in a British Military band at the time of the Boer War. The cornet also has a lion and unicorn holding a shield surmounted by a crown, the United Kingdom's royal coat of arms. 

Rivière & Hawkes were a London-based music publishing and instrument-making company that operated from 1865 to 1930. The company was originally called Hawkes & Son, but changed its name to Rivière & Hawkes after William Henry Hawkes partnered with Jules Rivière in 1876.
