Corona No 3-Folding Typewriter manufactured in the UK July 1917 with case
The Corona 3 began its life as the Standard Folding typewriter, originally patented in 1904. Within a few years it was redesigned and brought to market as the Corona Model 3, with a much more refined look that its predecessor. The unique characteristic of the Corona 3 typewriter was a carriage that folded over the keyboard for an easy fit into its travel case. A novel idea. Manufactured for almost three decades, production ceased around 1941, but not before it had become one of the biggest sellers of all time and had helped propel Smith Corona to the top of the typewriter industry. Because of the large quantities manufactured over a long period of time, specimens of this model are easily found, even after eighty years. It has been affectionately dubbed the "Folding Corona" by collectors today.
