This is a Cox's Stadia Computer, a specialized circular slide rule manufactured by Cooke Troughton & Simms Ltd.

 It was used by surveyors to calculate horizontal distances and vertical differences in elevation from stadia tachymetry readings.

Key Functions

Difference of Elevation: Calculates the vertical height change based on the vertical angle and the rod interval.

Horizontal Distance: Adjusts the observed distance to the true horizontal distance, accounting for the angle of the slope.

How to Use

According to the instructions printed on the face:Set the Disc: Rotate the inner disc to align the zero index with your rod reading (e.g. on the outer logarithmic scale.
Find Elevation: Locate your vertical angle (e.g. on the "Difference of Elevation" scale.

 The corresponding number on the outer scale is your height difference.

Find Horizontal Distance: Locate the same vertical angle on the "Horizontal Distance" scale. The value on the outer scale is your corrected horizontal distance.
