Seeds require a period of cold stratification before sowing; place them in the refrigerator for about 3 months before sowing. Grow seeds in 3- to 4-inch pots; place two seeds in each pot planted about 1/4 inch deep. Seeds germinate quickest at about 70°F. Seeds germinate in 3 to 5 weeks.

Although cranberries can be grown from seed, you'll need some patience as it can take three to five years for a seed-grown plant to produce fruit.
Do cranberries grow in South Africa?
These plants are extremely cold hardy and can be grown about anywhere in South Africa, but cooler areas works even better as the plant needs to enter it's dormant state for optimum fruit production.
Cranberries like acidic soils, and peat helps to mimic their natural environment. Keep them warm, around 70 degrees, and the cranberry seeds should sprout in about 3 weeks, but sometimes it can take much longer. Be patient, and keep the soil moist but not soggy.
