Common Names: Tricolour Jade, Variegated Money Plant, Golden Jade Tree
This shrubby South African indigenous succulent grows slowly to reach 60cm to 90cm in height with leaves about the same size as the common jade plant, Crassula ovata. Unlike the green leaves of the species, the leaves of this cultivar take on spectacular hues with the upper portion of the leaves having a golden yellow colour and the edges ochre, especially during the cooler months of the year. The late autumn to winter flowers are white with a hint of lavender. Expect this plant to go green for a while after replanting and or when over fertilized. For best results plant it in well-drained garden soil with a good dressing of compost and mulch well to retain moisture, but only water when the soil has dried out to a depth of not less than 5cm. For optimum colour, this cultivar needs at least 6 hours of sun a day.
Natural leaf size is 2.5cm to 5cm but can be reduced to as little as 1.25cm with regular pruning. As a bonsai the Tricolour Jade Tree is suitable for informal upright and clump styles, in all sizes.
These plants will be sent without pots and soil free. We'll remove the plants from the soil as it not only increases postage but also makes the parcel unstable.
Left is a photo of some of the actual plants which are in 12.5cm pots.
