Name of Artist Mezzotint engraved by Johann Gerhard Huck (1759–1811), Drawn by Anton Hickel
Title of work  The Right Honourable William Pitt, Chancellor of the Exchequer, First Lord of the Treasury etc
Date  1782
Medium  Mezzotint
Description of artwork  The Right Honourable William Pitt, Chancellor of the Exchequer, First Lord of the Treasury etc.  Drawn by Anton Hickel, mezzotint engraved by Johann Gerhard Huck, 1782. Original mezzotint was 385mm x 495mm.

Who was Johann Gerhard Huck?  He appears to have been an artist and a mezzotint engraver.  It is possible that in his younger days he was brought up in Dusseldorf, in Germany, where his parents ran a print shop.  It would appear that he started training to become an artist/engraver in 1773 at the age of 14.  Possibly in 1782, at the age of 23, he came to England to further his career and worked for the engraver Valentine Green (1739-1813).  He possibly returned to Germany in 1788 as Green's agent in a project to engrave the Dusseldorf Gallery.  He later published his own prints in Düsseldorf and Hildesheim.  Presumably he came back to the UK briefly in 1790 as this is when he drew a portrait of George Marsh. His works are very rare.
Size  Artwork - 345 x 422mm / 13.58” x 16.61”
Frame - 620 x 750 x 20mm
(The work is behind reflective glass, and will ensure very securely protected and wrapped for postage - if you're concerned about glass breaking, I can obtain quote for courier).
