The Creative Sound Blaster 32 (Model CT3670, FCC ID: IBACT-SB32PNP45) is a unique, hybrid 16-bit ISA expansion card released in 1996. It shares the AWE64 chipset and a bug-free DSP 4.16, making it operate effectively like an AWE64 but with convenient SIMM slots for RAM expansion. [

Core Specifications

  • Form Factor: 16-bit ISA Plug and Play card
  • Audio Processing: 16-bit audio mixing at up to 44 kHz
  • Compatibility: AdLib, Sound Blaster, and Sound Blaster 16 standards
  • DSP Version: 4.16 (same as the AWE64) [Synthesizer & MIDI
  • Synthesizer: Features the EMU8011/EMU8000 chipset
  • MIDI Capabilities: Supports General MIDI, Roland MT-32 emulation, and Sound Blaster AWE synthesizers without the hanging note bugs or slowdown issues of earlier cards
  • RAM Slots: Features two 30-pin SIMM slots to upgrade RAM for loading large SoundFonts (SF2) or MT-32 sound banks [

Connectivity & Interfaces

  • Audio Ports: 3.5 mm Line-In, Microphone-In, Line-Out, and Speaker-Out
  • Internal Connectors: Analog CD-ROM audio inputs and PC speaker input
  • CD-ROM Interface: Includes an IDE interface for connecting older CD-ROM drives directly
  • Game/MIDI Port: DB-15 joystick port which also functions as a MIDI interface [

Strengths & Considerations

  • The "Sweet Spot" for DOS: Because it lacks onboard RAM but retains the AWE64 engine, users can add their own standard SIMMs to take advantage of advanced SoundFonts for retrogaming. [
  • Audio Output Warning: The Speaker-Out port is amplified and can introduce unwanted noise; for optimal sound quality, it is highly recommended to use the Line-Out port. [
  • Missing Features: Compared to the original AWE32, this board omits the Wave Blaster header for daughterboards and lacks the CSP/ASP chip socket
