A large quantity of loose leaves from disbound volumes of Illustrated London News, 1853, 1854.
These are contemporary, 'hot-of-the-press' reports from the scenes of action in the 'Russian War', wherein Britain and its allies (principally France) fought against Russia, which was trying to secure hegemony over Turkey so that it could control the Bosphorus straits and have easy sea access to the Mediterranean.
Well over 100 leaves, most with several wood-engraved illustrations. a few of the illustrations are double-paged.
Condition variable: some fair; some good. There is a little soiling and creasing, as well as a few tears, in places.
A fabulous contemporary archive of the greatest military confrontation in Europe between the end of the Napoleonic wars and the start of the First World War. A few might frame nicely.
