Crinum firmifolium (also sold as C. ligulatum) a compact, well-mannered Crinum, native to Madagascar. Forms a vigorous but tidy clump of glossy green, strap-like leaves, with numerous tall flower stalks. Buds are a striking cherry-red, opening to pure-white, star-shaped, sweetly fragrant flowers with pink petal backs and contrasting pink anthers.
R100.00 per bulb approx. 40 available.
Plant with the neck of the bulb just above soil level, in full sun to part shade, in organically rich, well-drained soil (though like most Crinum, it tolerates both moist and drier spells once settled). Reaches roughly 90 cm1.5 m in flower. Give it a season or two to establish before expecting a full show of blooms patience is rewarded with a long-lived, low-maintenance clump that just keeps building.
Note: like other Crinum lilies, this species contains alkaloids that are toxic if ingested keep away from pets and children.
