Crinum mauritianum (Mauritius Swamp-lily)

Crinum mauritianum a genuine rarity. Native to Mauritius, this species was thought extinct until it was rediscovered near Midlands Dam in 1973. A mid-sized Crinum, naturally found in swamps and other semi-aquatic spots, though it grows perfectly well in ordinary garden soil too. Flowers profusely, with umbels of fragrant white blooms above stiff, slightly succulent, light green leaves.

Full sun, reaches roughly 4070 cm. Flowers through the warmer months. Reasonably hardy for a subtropical Crinum, tolerating light frost once established, though a sheltered spot is safest in colder gardens. Happy in the ground or in a large container.
