Help CROC, the crusading crocodile, rescue his peace-loving Gobbo friends from the grasp of evil Baron Dante. Omniplay feature allows shared control over one character or vehicle within a game. Omniplay is the sharing of controls for the purpose of teaching and assisting younger players or, in some cases, their parents. Real-time 3-D graphics and seamless animation. Hours and hours of gameplay with over 40 levels within 4 Gobbo tribe villages. Free-roaming 3-D gameplay lets you go anywhere, as you run, jump, climb, stomp and even swim. Brand new missions, tasks and manoeuvres for CROC, make CROC 2 a true adventure. Each world includes unique elements, terrifying monsters and mind-boggling obstacles.
As surely as leaves fall in autumn, successful cute 3D platform adventures get their sequels. Croc 2 is the follow-up to Croc: Legend of the Gobbos , and it's just as pretty, gently taxing and involving as its predecessor. As Croc embarks on a search for his long-lost parents, he soon finds himself up against the minions of Baron Dante (his adversary from the first game) before discovering that the Baron has risen from the grave and is out for Croc's blood.
Like most sequels, Croc 2 is not quite as good as the original, but there's certainly enough of the first game's magic still intact to ensure its appeal. And that appeal is immediate: there's more of the running and jumping you would expect, but Croc 2 features a more fluid progression through the world, meaning you'll be travelling far and wide to complete the game. As in the first game, the graphics are up to scratch but some of the level design seems a little uninteresting, without quite so much fun and surprise as the original. Gameplay is more varied, though, thanks to the industry-standard addition of some vehicles Croc can use to traverse his world. If the first Croc--good as it was--was a tad uninspired and "samey", a less-than-groundbreaking entry into the platform canon, then creating an almost carbon-copy sequel was a risky move. It's bound to disappoint some hardcore gamers but for lovers of the first game--and lovers of light-entertainment diversions--Croc 2 is sure to please. --David Bailey
