The Crocodile Fern is unlike any other fern you've seen. Its glossy green leaves are covered in dark, crocodile-skin-like markings that give it a wild, tropical look. Compact, unusual, and easy to grow, this fern is perfect if you want something a little different for your home.
Pot size : 14cm

Commonly known as: Crocodile Fern
Botanical name: Microsorum musifolium 'Crocodyllus'

The Crocodile Fern is a bold, tropical fern that brings something truly unique to an indoor plant collection. Its broad green leaves are marked with dark veins and textures that resemble crocodile skin, hence the name. Native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia and Australia, this fern is both ornamental and surprisingly hardy indoors.

Crocodile Fern Care Guide

Light

Crocodile Ferns prefer bright, indirect light. They tolerate medium light well but should be protected from harsh direct sun, which can scorch the textured leaves.

💧 Watering

Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Let the top 23cm of soil dry before watering again. These ferns are less fussy than some others, but they still dislike completely drying out.

🌡 Temperature & Humidity

Best in warm conditions between 1826°C. They love humidity, so place them in kitchens, bathrooms, or use a pebble tray or humidifier if the air is dry.

🪴 Soil & Repotting

For healthy roots, use our Aroid Mix, or make your own with Barks Unlimited Potting Soil and Perlite. Add Bark Chips for extra aeration. Repot every 12 years or when the plant has filled its pot.

🍃 Fertiliser

Feed monthly in spring and summer with a mild fertiliser such as Controlled Release Fertiliser or Organic Fertiliser. Avoid overfeeding, as the fern's roots are sensitive.

🐛 Pests

Generally pest-free but may occasionally attract scale or mealybugs. Wipe down the leaves and use insecticidal spray if pests appear.

The Crocodile Fern is perfect for anyone who wants the lush, tropical look of a fern but with an unusual twist. Its hardy nature and striking texture make it a great choice for both beginners and collectors.
