Croton sylvaticus commonly known as Fever Tree, Forest Croton or Forest Fever-berry in English and Koorsboom, Wilde Moerbei or Without in Afrikaans is a South African indigenous species from the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga Provinces. It forms a 7 meter to 13 meter tree. During summer is bears cream to pale yellow flowers in spikes. These are followed by bright orange fruit. This is a beautiful and decorative shade tree. Croton is an extensive flowering plant genus in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. The plants of this genus were described and introduced to Europeans by Georg Eberhard Rumphius. The common names for this genus are rushfoil and croton, but the latter also refers to Codiaeum variegatum. The generic name comes from the Greek κροτον (kroton), which means "tick" and refers to the shape of the seeds of certain species.
