Cuphea Sweet Talk Deep Pink Seeds

Cuphea Sweet Talk Deep Pink Seeds produce bold deep-pink flowers on tightly branched, mounded Cuphea procumbens plants. Deep Pink is the largest landscape colour in the Sweet Talk F1 series and gives sunny beds and containers a strong warm-season colour accent.

Quick Grow Facts

• Plant Type: Frost-tender bedding plant; grow as a warm-season annual in cold districts.
• Scientific Name: Cuphea procumbens Sweet Talk F1 Deep Pink
• Seed Form: Raw seed. Sow one seed per cell as supplied. No soaking, scarification or chilling step is given; raw does not prove untreated status.
• General Sowing Time: Start under protection in late winter to spring and plant after frost; see the regional windows in the guide.
• Position: Full sun.
• Sow Depth and Light: Cover about 2 mm with fine vermiculite or seed mix; light is optional for germination.
• Germination: 2025°C. Breeder 37 days from 50% to maximum germination; current packet 810 days. Allow up to 10 days.
• Moisture: Keep the fine cover moist until emergence without standing water; then uncover, improve airflow and reduce saturation.
• Transplanting: Move a rooted plug with true leaves after about four weeks and harden gradually before planting.
• Spacing: 2030 cm; use the wider end for this larger landscape colour and in humid gardens.
• Growth Type: Tightly branched mound, about 2036 cm high and 2036 cm wide.
• Pinching: No routine pinching is needed.
• Flowering: Bold deep-pink, nectar-rich flowers from late spring into autumn; professional timing is about 1113 weeks from sowing.

Growing Notes

• Use clean small cells and fine, sterile, freely drained seed mix.
• Give bright light and gentle airflow immediately after emergence to prevent stretch and damping-off.
• Water thoroughly, then allow slight drying at the surface. Repeated saturation encourages oedema and root disease.
• Feed lightly; naturally light-green C. procumbens foliage should not be forced darker with excess nitrogen.

The nectar-rich flowers attract bees and other local flower visitors. The breeder's hummingbird claim applies to the Americas, not South Africa.

Ornamental seed: Raw describes the seed form, not food safety. Do not eat the seed or plant parts, and keep packets away from children and pets.
