Cute Bisque Baby Doll marked Genine with Rag / Cloth Stuffed Frog Body

A CUTE BISQUE BABY DOLL WITH CLOTH STUFFED FROG BODY. HEAD AND HANDS ARE MADE FROM BISQUE WHILE THE HAND SEWN BODY ARMS AND LEGS ARE CLOTH STUFFED. ALTHOUGH THIS DOLL HAS SOME OLD FEATURES IT IS MOST PROPABLY A MORE MODERN REPRODUCTION OF A VINTAGE DOLL WITH FACE MOLD 142.
 
Bisque is an unglazed porcelain that has a matte finish. It was used to make dolls heads and achieve a realistic skin tone. Bisque doll production started by French and German doll manufacturers in the late 1860s.
 
Antique dolls often had bodies of wood, porcelain or bisque or composition (composite material composed of sawdust, glue, and other materials such as cornstarch, resin and wood flour). Later dolls had bodies made of cloth / rag bodies. Antique dolls had hand painted eyes that cannot move.
