Cyanella orchidiformis is an edible bulb that grows to 30 cm tall. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs).

Cyanella orchidiformis usually has a flattish rosette of rather broad leaves and few-branched inflorescenses

The plant prefers light (sandy) soils. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It requires moist soil.

This bulb thrives in hot areas and is perticularly well suited to being used in a rockery.
