Distinctively inflated, bladder-like fruit, dangling like lanterns. The fruit in bud can look smoky pink-grey.

The inflated, ovoid fruit of Cysticapnos vesicaria  is a  thin-walled, membranous capsule that hangs air-filled from a longish stalk, its tip pointed. Initially the greenish surface is tinged pink upon the reticulated veins. These veins remain visible on the pale beige, dry fruits scattered on the dead branches like Christmas decorations.
