Lavender Perfection is a breathtaking Dinnerplate Dahlia that lives up to its name. Its lavender-pink blooms are lush, oversized, and packed with romantic charm. Revered as one of the finest dinnerplate dahlias available, this variety makes a bold statement in the garden and is guaranteed to be the showstopper of your summer display.
With strong, upright stems reaching 120 cm, 'Lavender Perfection' is ideal for cut flower gardens, border plantings, or any sunny spot where its grandeur can shine.
Plant your tuber after the last spring frost, once the soil temperature has reached at least 15°C — typically from early to mid-September in most parts of South Africa.
Tuber Count: 1 (minimum one eye guaranteed)
Plant Height: ± 120 cm
Spacing Required: 45 cm
Light Requirement: Full Sun
Blooming Season: Summer through first frost
Staking Needed: Yes — due to tall growth and large blooms
Select a rich, well-drained garden bed or a large container with good drainage.
Loosen the soil to a depth of 30 cm and mix in compost and granular fertiliser.
Place the tuber in the hole with the eye or sprouts facing upward. The top of the tuber should sit 8 cm below the soil surface.
Firm the soil gently around the tuber and water thoroughly to settle.
Avoid leaving air pockets and ensure containers have ample drainage holes.
Avoid overwatering newly planted tubers. After the initial deep watering, hold off until you see new growth.
Keep foliage dry to prevent disease. Water deeply once or twice a week, allowing the top 2.5 cm of soil to dry out between waterings.
Feed regularly with a water-soluble organic fertiliser every 3—4 weeks until March, then stop to allow tubers to prepare for dormancy.
Deadhead regularly by snipping off wilted flowers just above a leaf junction to promote continuous blooming.
Harvest long stems for bouquets to encourage branching and more blooms. Though short-lived in the vase, these blooms are truly spectacular.
Dahlias do not grow true from seed, so if you want to keep this variety, protect and store your tubers correctly through winter.
In most parts of South Africa, you can leave tubers in the ground through winter. They'll rest underground and re-emerge in spring.
If you're not planting immediately, store your tuber in a cool, dry, and dark spot. Avoid damp or humid storage conditions to prevent rot.
