The Dahlia 'Purple Gem' is a classic variety known for its striking, spiky blooms and rich violet-purple colour. Bloom Size: Approximately 1215 cm (56 inches) across. Height: Typically reaches 90120 cm (3648 inches). Bloom Season: Mid-summer (July) until the first frost of autumn. Colour Profile: Deep purple / violet; petals Its quilled petals curl into tight tubes, giving the flower a dynamic, spiky appearance. The more you harvest these for bouquets, the more flowers the plant produces. Cutting stems actually stimulates new growth. Needs at least 68 hours of direct sunlight daily for strong stems and maximum blooms. When the plant is about 2030 cm tall, pinch out the main growing tip. This forces the plant to branch out, creating a bushier habit with more flower heads. Due to its height (up to 1.2m), this variety often requires staking with bamboo canes or brushwood to prevent it from leaning or snapping.
