Marble Dust is a neutral thickener or texturer which is best used with a gel medium to thicken it prior to painting. Many people err & use Plaster of Paris or Polyfilla to do this job but those items have chemicals included that act in different ways when exposed to paints & gel mediums etc. Marble Dust can also be added to paint directly .... the fine is a good thickener whereas the course is "salt-like" and perfect for creating texture on a canvas.

Unlike its name it has no marbling effect to paint. Marble dust is added to paint or gel medium for thickening, texture, extending and to improve opacity amongst other things, but has a whitening effect which reduces colour. Marble dust is a natural mineral powder.
