This is one of the twenty-three etchings that comprise the first volume of two portfolios, In a Spin, the Action of the World on Things I and II. Each etching was made by the artist in London 2002, printed on 350gsm Hahnmuhle paper, proofed and editioned at Hope (Sufferance) Press, London and published by Charles Booth-Clibborn under his imprint, The Paragon Press. There are sixty-eight sets of prints, numbered 168 on the colophon page, and six proof copies
In 2002 Damien Hirst created In a spin: the Action of the World on Things, Volume 1, a portfolio of etchings taking his concept of spin drawings and paintings into the print medium. The complex and lengthy process was characterised by a high degree of physical intervention at every stage by the artist, sometimes to a physically dangerous degree, as the copper plates, fixed to the spin machine, rotated at speed. Working closely with the printers, Hirst set colour guidelines then made a final selection of etchings, offering a customised portfolio of work that had stretched the etching medium to its limits.

Damien Steven Hirst is an English artist, entrepreneur and art collector. He is the most prominent member of the group known as the Young British Artists (or YBAs), who dominated the art scene in the UK during the 1990s. He is internationally renowned, and is reportedly the United Kingdom's richest living artist, with his wealth valued at £215m in the 2010 Sunday Times Rich List. During the 1990s his career was closely linked with the collector Charles Saatchi, but increasing frictions came to a head in 2003 and the relationship ended.
