DANIEL NOVELA Original Oil
After much deliberation I have decided to put this painting up for sale. Artist Daniel Novela is hailed as an "Art Collector's Dream" not only locally but especially internationally. It is clear that local and international collectors see more in Novella's work than his extraordinary technique and love for his subject - they see Novella as an excellent investment. Recent listings of prices fetched by auctions houses for his paintings in Feb 2010 were R8000 and R9000.
Novela was born 1964 in Louis Trichardt, Northern Transvaal and started drawing at the age of 9. He was a brilliant scholar and schooled in Maputo and South Africa. In 1998 he was given the opportunity to enroll at the fine arts faculty, Vaal Triangle Technicon and was named one of the best students when he completed his studies in 2000. He has developed a powerful range of techniques and paints subjects and themes close to his heart with sensitivity, depth and sophistication. He has participated in numerous exhibitions all over South Africa. His works are widely acknowledges and he has attained solo exhibitions in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and in New York (upon invitation). His works can be found in many corporate and private collections, locally and internationally.
The painting up for sale is titled verso "Ostrich Hunter 2". It is a large framed painting, measuring 97x71cm (with frame) and 75x50cm (painting only). It is an oil on board and in excellent condition featuring 4 stalking bushmen, beautifully painted in rich striking colours. Signed by the Novela in the bottom right corner and dated "2002".
I contacted Novela to verify authenticity and provenance. According to Novela, this is one of his earlier works, he does not do Bushmen any more and for this reason these paintings are very sought after. Though already very valuable, it can and will only increase in value as time goes by. Novela was the Featured Artist in the March 2010 Edition of Garden and Home, a photo of the article below.
