Seeds from an assortment of date varieties. Dates arent typically grown from seeds as seeds don't grow true to type, however accessing date palm clones (of known cultivars) is difficult in South Africa. Thus seeds are the only way to get a date palm growing in your back garden. The seeds in this range are from a couple different varieties that vary in shape, size, texture and sugar content . They will produce either a male or female tree. You need both to get fruit. Thus growing at least 5 date palms till maturity would be necessary to guarantee you get both. Your palms will be both a fruit producer and a wonderful ornamental addition to your garden
Climate : Hot climates such as those of the Northern cape are ideal. Though you could make a plant to grow them elsewhere provided your winters stay above freezing
Growing Season : Dates are sown in late spring till late summer, requiring full sun and well-drained soil
Time till Harvest: Expect to harvest your first dates approximately 5 to 15 years after the initial sowing depending on the variety and growing conditions.
