Hardcover published by Macmillan and Co, fourth reprint 1891, no jacket. The boards are much edge-worn, especially at the foot of the spine, where it appears two strips of the edges have been shaved off. There is some blistering to the covering of the boards, and a split to the edges of the spine covering at the head of the spine. Internally the name of a previous owenr is written neatly in pen on the first end-paper. The frontispiece tissue guard is present and intact, as is the fold-out colour map of Southern Africa. Throughout the book in places there are minor tears and creases to the pages, that are all lightly tanned, but are otherwise unmarked, and still well bound. A title of the English Men of Action series, that includes the likes of Drake, Captain Cook and Wellington.
