A BEAUTIFUL 1,60 CARAT (0,32G PLEASE SEE PHOTO MULTIPLY GRAMS BY 5 TO GET CARATS) RAINBOW SPARK (LIME YELLOW COLOR CHANGE) TITANITE GEMSTONE WITH A BEAUTIFUL SCISSOR CUT. As its name implies, scissor-cuts appear to have crisscrossed blades that look like scissors. A type of step cut similar but more reflective than an Emerald cut due to the patterns of its facets.
THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT FROM A SELLER ON EBAY IN 2011 FROM CHANTABURI THAILAND WITH THE COUNTRY OF ORIGEN INDICATED AS TANZANIA. IT HAS A SI (SOME INCLUSIONS EYE VISIBLE) CLARITY WHICH MEANS IT HAS SOME INCLUSIONS AS SEEN WITH THE NAKED EYE WHICH IT APPEARS TO BE. IT WAS ALSO SOLD AS A NATURAL UNTREATED GEMSTONE.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT AND THERE ARE NO TESTS (SCRATCH TEST; UV TEST; THERMAL TEST) THAT I COULD PERFORM ON TITANITE OR SPHENE THAT CAN CONFIRM THIS GEMSTONES NATURE AND PROPERTIES. THIS GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT SPHENE CAN BE FOUND ALL OVER THE WORLD AND ALTHOUGH GEM QUALITY STONES ARE RARE IT IS NOT USUALLY MADE IN A LAB.
SIZE: 8,6mm x 6,3mm x 3,2mm
TITANITE: Sphene, better known to mineralogists as titanite, is a spectacular gemstone prized by collectors for its diamond-like luster and high dispersion (separation of white light into colours) which is even higher than diamonds. TITANITE, OR SPHENE, IS A CALCIUM TITANIUM NESOSILICATE MINERAL. TRACE IMPURITIES OF IRON AND ALUMINIUM ARE TYPICALLY PRESENT. TITANITE IS NAMED FOR ITS TITANIUM CONTENT. Sphene is not commonly seen in jewelry. Its hardness of 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale, along with its easy cleavage and parting, make it too fragile as a ring stone. IRON HAS A STRONG INFLUENCE ON THE COLOR OF TITANITE. SMALL AMOUNTS OF IRON DARKEN THE COLOR. YELLOW AND GREEN SPECIMENS HAVE A LOW IRON CONTENT, WHILE BROWN AND BLACK SPECIMENS HAVE A HIGHER IRON CONTENT. Sphene can be found all over the world, including Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Kenya, Austria, Brazil, Mexico, and the USA. However, Madagascar is the primary source for the gem. Although mostly considered a collectors gem, the sphene has a rare beauty that deserves more widespread admiration.
