DCM(EdwVII), 3-bar QSA and 2-bar KSA to G F Wight, Cape Mounted Rifles EF

He was awarded the DCM for the following act of gallantry (London Gazette 20 August 1901):

“Cape Mounted Rifles- Private Whyte: On May 9^th, 1901, Molteno District, Cape Colony, when signaler with a patrol engaged with superior numbers, caught and took back a horse to a dismounted man, then took up another on his own horse, both acts under considerable fire”

The initials and surname on the DCM is engraved: the London Gazette entry and the DCM Issue Registry misspelt his name as Whyte without initials instead of G F Wight and the recipient had the mistake on the DCM corrected by a jeweler. This correction was first reported by A N Pamm in a note in the OMRS Journal, Autumn 1981 Issue, p147.
