De Beers Consolidated mines 1 shilling  Store token


The letters D. B. C. M. Ltd. stand for De Beers Consolidated Mines Limited.


Store under the value indicates its use in a Mine Compound shop. Numerous Mines formed the Group each having different tokens by various piercings or countermarks on standard pieces. This zinc token has a small "Lion" stamped under the bar of the shilling sign, which was for use in the Wesselton Mine. By 1889 the Group controlled 90% of the World's diamonds.
