Genuine Tranter .45 double action revolver. It has a scratched-out "C.M.R." stamped on the frame, meaning it was used by the Cape Mounted Rifles at some point. It also has a Union Defence Force stamp just below the CMR stamp, meaning it was still in service when South Africa became a Union, this is unusual as the Webley had been adopted by most British officers by 1910. There is also a small "B" stamped under the barrel which I've heard means it may have also been used by the Basotho Mounted Police, but I can't confirm it, it's more likely just a proof mark.
I know it's an absolute travesty that such a rare piece of history has had its barrel drilled and plugged, this was not my choice, it's how I bought it. Fortunately, the hammer and trigger mechanism still function (As a double action, the hammer can't be kept in a cocked position), the cylinder still cycles, the shell extractor still functions, and the breach on the side of the cylinder can still be opened. The deactivation certificate misidentifies this as an Adams Revolver, but it's definitely for this firearm as the serial numbers match.
There is a lot of pitting on the metal work and the metal plate and ring that would've gone under the handle to attach to a lanyard are missing, but otherwise, the weapon is in decent condition for its age.
No international bidders on this one for obvious reasons.
Please see the condition in pics.
I don't close auctions early, so don't bother asking, just bid fairly like everyone else.
Although I've never had any issues with couriers, I hold no responsibility for any loss or damage of items once they've been handed over to couriers.
