This vintage piece is beautifully crafted in polished 9ct yellow gold. The ring has an unusual design, with a narrow shank that forks into a tri-strand low on the shoulders, supporting the 12mm diameter ring head. A trio of beautifully round-faceted amethysts are claw set in the centre of the ring head, sitting 5mm above the finger. Two of the amethysts measure 5,8mm in diameter and one measures 6mm in diameter. Openwork below the gemstones allows the maximum amount of light through the amethysts, maximising sparkle and clarity. The contrast of the rich, royal purple against the warmth of the yellow gold is strong and eye-catching. The piece weighs a solid 3,33 grams and bears a number of hallmarks indicating the pedigree: the 375 hallmark indicating 9ct gold, the jeweller's signature, the date and the Birmingham Assay mark. I have had the ring examined and evaluated by an independent jeweller at R14'000, and a certificate to that effect will accompany the piece.
