Deep Purple is the third album by the band of the same name, recorded and released in 1969. The album is notable for featuring the longest track in the band's history - a 12-minute "April". It was also different from the band's first two releases in that it included almost entirely original material, the only cover being "Lalena", originally recorded by Donovan Leitch. This release saw the band heading into more progressive and hard rock direction, which was further developed on the next albums.
