1 X bottle of 1974 limited edition Muscat D'Alexandrie from the Deetlefs wine estate. This is bottle # 1184 of a limited edition of 2000.I bought this bottle in 2003 and it is still in the 'old' packaging as the Deetlefs estate decided to change the branding of this very rare and unique wine in 2006 to better reflect the value of the item.Due to the popularity of this wine and the limited quantity available the estate decided to withdraw it from the market in 2004 and it was re-released in 2006.Each of the 'new' bottles is hand packed in a hand-made wooden case and accompanied with a certificate of authenticity.Only approximately 400 bottles were sold before the withdrawal in 2004 and I was lucky enough to purchase two bottles in 2003.This original old packaging can be viewed as my guarantee of authenticity and one might even think it would make this bottle worth more as only 400 bottles exist in this packaging.John Platter describes this wine as a "Superb old Muscat and a rarity".One of my many regrets in life is that I didn't buy more of these bottles in 2003 but I suppose I should be thankful that I didn't end up drinking it!!Currently the estate sells this wine at R31000 per bottle and then only on special occasions. For more info about this wine visit the Deetlefs wine estate website.
