This 17–inch flat panel monitor also has pivot technology. If you install pivot software, the monitor can display upright or sideways. It is also among the fastest with a 8ms response time.
This is one of the best monitors for general use since it is highly adjustable, has a clear display and operates at a low energy level. However, it you are a gamer or use a Macintosh, you may want to check out our #2 pick from LG.
Display:
Dell’s 1707FP 17–inch flat panel LCD monitor has a maximum resolution of 1280 X 1024 pixels and a gray–to–gray response rate of 8ms. Its horizontal viewing range is 140° and its vertical is 130°, which isn’t as good as the LG, but respectable.
This monitor’s contrast ratio is 600:1 with a brightness of 300 cd/m2 and a dot pitch of 0.264 mm, which are average. Dell’s extra features and adjustability are what sets this monitor apart from the competition, since its display is standard.
Gamers or those who need high definition color and speed may want to look at the LG. Nevertheless, for office or general home use this monitor is a good choice.
Ergonomic Adjustments:
This LCD monitor moves–it can raise, lower, pivot, tilt and swivel. Its height adjustment has a range of over five inches. These adjustments make it perfect for desktop use or long–term use and makes it as easy on the eyes as possible.
Features:
The most functional and unique feature this flat panel has is four USB 2.0 high–speed ports. We have 1905FPs and use the ports all of the time, to plug in video cameras, DVD burners and so on, it really is a convenient feature, that only Dell offers.
It also has pivot ability, so the monitors can be turned on their side and with the pivot software can display the information longwise as well. Without the stand, it is 2.57 inches thick, so it may look best on a desktop or attached to an arm, as opposed to a flush wall mount.
The onscreen display controls (OSD) also come in handy. For example, you can quickly lower the brightness level to reduce eyestrain. The OSD controls can be viewed in English, Spanish, French, Dutch or Japanese.
It has a low power use of only 32 Watts, standby operates at 2W, with the Dell Soundbar (optional) and USB ports in use it consumes 75 Watts.
Dell monitors are not Macintosh compatible, it you use a Mac computer see the LG or the ViewEra if you want speakers.
