Francesco Maria Casini was appreciated specifically for his oratory and for the beauty of his sermons.As a professor of Theology, he became attorney general of his order and ordinary preacher of His Holiness in 1692. Appointed preacher of the Apostolic Palace during the pontificate of Innocent XII , he brought comfort to the latter pope when he was on the verge of death.Created cardinal for his pious work by his successor to the papal throne, he was proclaimed on 18 May 1712 and  obtained the purple and the cardinal title of Santa Prisca.He died in Rome on 14 February 1719 , in the bedroom of his Roman palace, near the church of the Santi Angeli Custodi.

These volumes contains the sermons of a pious man, Father Francesco Maria of Arezzo, a friend of the poor, and as such these books were meant to be read by the populace and therefore are in Italian, not Latin.
