"Meet Descloizite the heavy hitter of the mineral world!"
Descloizite is a rare vanadate mineral basically a mix of lead and zinc vanadate. It forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of lead-zinc deposits.
Named after Alfred Des Cloizeaux, a French mineralogist who made major contributions to crystallography in the 1800s.
It has a pretty fan-like or radiating crystal cluster which is a brown, reddish-brown, blackish-brown, or even orange, with a resinous or sub-metallic luster.
Form: Large, sharp, well-terminated crystals, often fan-like, spearpoint-shaped, or in tree structures
Classic localities include Otavi Mountainland in Namibia (especially Berg Aukas and Tsumeb mines) and Mexico.
This specimen comes off as heavy due to its lead content.
"Descloizite is not just a gem but prized for its crystal shapes & rarity."
