A historical novel set during two different time periods: Cold War-era Moscow in the 1950s and post-Soviet Russia in the early 1990s. The story follows Alexander Ivanov, a former Soviet official who has lived in America for decades, haunted by the memories of his late wife, Katya. Katya, a young Soviet woman, secretly despises the communist regime and works as a spy for the Americans. She is tasked with gathering intelligence on Alexander, leading to a complex web of deception, love, and betrayal.
The novel explores themes of political intrigue, personal sacrifice, and the emotional toll of espionage. It was later adapted into a film directed by Shamim Sarif herself.
