The story of Diablo III follows the eternal struggle between angels and demons, centered around the mortal world of Sanctuary. You play as the Nephalem, a hero tasked with stopping the return of Diablo, the Lord of Terror, and later confronting Malthael, the fallen Archangel of Wisdom, in the Reaper of Souls expansion.
While the narrative is serviceable, its the dark, gothic atmosphere and lore that stand out. Each act takes you through distinctive settingsfrom the ruined town of Tristram to the deserts of Caldeum, the jungles of Kurast, and the war-torn heavens themselves. The expansions Act V, set in Westmarch, adds a grim new tone and an excellent finale to the story.
Cutscenes and voice acting are top-notch, and the presentation of the worldfilled with secrets, books, and side storiesmakes exploration rewarding.
