Diamond Bozass family moved to South Africa from Greece and established a bakery in Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal in the 1930s. Bozas worked in the bakery even though he would much rather have become a full-time artist. He took a leave of absence long enough to study at the Chelsea School of Art in London under Raymond Croxon, alongside classmates Patrick Caulfield and Elisabeth Frink, but then returned to Eshowe. He ran the bakery after his father Alexanders death until it was sold in the 1970s.
His mesmerising still lifes grounded in realism, his atmospheric and symbolic KwaZulu-Natal landscapes, particularly fields of sugarcane, and his forays into decorative abstraction, have made him a favourite of institutions and discerning collectors, both in South Africa and abroad.
