Diana the Hunter”, also known as “Diana Nemorensis” and “Artemis”.
She was worshipped by many as the goddess of hunt, animals, woodland
and the moon. In
Capua and in Aricia, localities near Rome, there are
still shrines dedicated to her. Her shrine in Aricia was on the shores
of them
lakeNemi
. For that reason, she was named Diana Nemorensis-
Diana of the Woods. This sculpture depicts the beloved goddess with
her iconic crossbow, as she draws back on the string. She holds her
perfect hunter's form. Her legs are firmly locked and her body forms a
line as she locks her eyes on her target. Throughout time Diana has
become a popular feminist figure because of her beauty, strength, and
chastity.

AFTER THE ARTIST PIERRE LE FAGUAYS

Fayral and Guerbe were 2 pseudonyms used by the famous Pierre Le Faguays. Fayral and Guerbe were both the family names for his mother and wife. Pierre Le Faguays was born in Nantes, France and became famous for the originality he gave his dancers, many of which were inspired by the statues of Tanagra. Like Chiparus, Faguays' sculptures did a great deal for perpetuating the 1920s version of the ideal female form - all lithe athleticism with nimph like physiques.

He gained a medal of honour for his work in 1927. He was a best friend of Max Le Verrier and the Le Verrier foundry made most of - if not all of his pieces. Famous pieces by Fayral / Le Faguays include Odalisque, Offrande, Serenitie, The Escapade, Champagne Dancer and Veritie. For collectors original works by Faguays command high fees and his work really embodies the 1920s aesthetic.
