The Nodding Chocolate lily is a small genuine lily from the Liliaceae family that is native to Australia. It inhabits grassland, woodland and forests, often on the sides of gullies near streams and ranges throughout New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria. Its attractive fragrant mauve flowers are delicately set off on a slender stem with between two and six flowers at each stem node. The plant is tuberous and the tuber was a food source to the Aborigines.Apart from the attractive blooms this plant has a delightful perfume of chocolate that comes from the flowers in the warmth of the sun. ¿A true lily it can be propagated from seed or by division which succeeds in most soils but is best grown in a sandy, well-drained soil with plenty of added leaf mould. It is considered frost hardy tolerating temperatures down to at least -7C. Seed germinates readily without the need for any pretreatment.
