Hard cover, cloth, dustwrapper, 776 pages, line illustrations.
A little wear to the dustwrapper, lettering flaking on the cloth spine, minor foxing on the edges of the text block. Very good condition.
International dealers are currently selling this dictionary at prices ranging from US$397 to US$768.
In this work Dr. Abraham has brought to fruition the comprehensive study of Yoruba which he began when he came to Ibadan, on his own initiative, in 1952. In our bureaucratized world, this was an act of bravery, for most of us can hardly imagine going to a place like West Africa unless we have been sent or brought by some institution. He found financial support from various sources, . The work took three and a half years, and the author prepared the master-sheets of the typescript himself, for reproduction by photo-offset.
I estimate roughly that this dictionary has 45,000 words entered in it and explained. (Review in Africa 26:1 (January 1959))
