                     51 pages, coloured frontispiece, numerous black and white illustrations, pictorial cream covers with cloth spine, small red stain to front cover.

"Tannie"van die Brandwag was the pseudonym for Hester van Heerden (1873-1947), who acquired national fame with her children's column in The Sentinel. She was married to Izak van Heerden, who wrote under the pseudonym Vaalswaer. JSM Rabie, editor and founder of the South African Academy for Science and Literature, was one of her brothers.
