In 1906, terwyl die Namas teen die Duitsers veg, land daar die gesin Luchtenstein, in Luderitz se hawe. Hulle vertrek na die binneland waar hulle gaan woon, maar word op pad deur die Nama Kaptein Cornelius Fredericks oorval. Fredericks laat hulle gaan, maar word self dan later gevange geneem.
Daar ontstaan egter n band tussen die jong Ernst Luchtenstein en gevange Kaptein Fredericks.
