Newspaper, mei I, 1948, original, complete, 44 pages, large format, Afrikaans text, condition: new
"Die Nuwe Stem" was a short-lived South African political publication whose first issues appeared in 1948 in the run-up to the historic general election of 26 May 1948. The publication focused on the then politically charged atmosphere in which the United Party of Gen. Jan Smuts and the Herenigde Nasionale Party of Dr. D.F. Malan competed for the rule of the country.
The issue was published in the same month as the election that permanently changed the political landscape by bringing the National Party to power. Publications such as Die Nuwe Stem and established newspapers such as Die Transvaler or Die Burger were actively used to influence voters' political opinions.
