Die Parsifal-Mosaïek by Robert Ludlum is the first Afrikaans edition of Ludlum's international espionage thriller The Parsifal Mosaic, published in 1982 by Human & Rousseau for Leserskring and translated into Afrikaans by Ludwig Visser. This attractive hardcover forms part of the distinctive Leserskring se Moderne Gunstelinge series and is bound in red faux leather with elaborate gilt-stamped borders, lettering and decorative ornamentation.
Robert Ludlum became one of the defining writers of twentieth-century espionage fiction, internationally renowned for complex plots involving intelligence agencies, political intrigue, conspiracy, betrayal and protagonists forced to uncover dangerous truths. Die Parsifal-Mosaïek is characteristic of the tightly plotted Cold War thrillers for which Ludlum became famous and remains an appealing title for collectors of his earlier work.
Die Parsifal-Mosaïek centres on American intelligence operative Michael Havelock, who witnesses the apparent execution of the woman he loves after she is identified as a double agent. When he later sees her alive, what appeared to be a closed chapter becomes the beginning of an increasingly dangerous investigation involving deception, international intelligence networks and a conspiracy with potentially devastating consequences.
This Afrikaans edition has additional South African collecting interest. Die Parsifal-Mosaïek was issued in the same year as the original English-language novel and represents the first Afrikaans edition, making it an attractive addition to collections of Robert Ludlum, Afrikaans translations, vintage thrillers and Leserskring publications.
The handsome matching gilt binding also makes this particularly suitable for collectors assembling a run of the Leserskring se Moderne Gunstelinge editions.
