Jonker, Abr. H.(Abraham Hendrik), 1905 - 1966. Author. Jonker studied Theology and Law at the University of Stellenbosch where he attained an M.A. degree in Greek and a doctorate in Literature. Jonker served on the editorial boards of Die Burger and Die Huisgenoot, and was subsequently editor of Die Jongspan and Die Suiderstem. Jonker was a co-founder of the literary journal entitled Ons Eie Boek. He wrote novels entitled Die kanker van die jare (1931), Gebeurtenisse (1931), Die plaasverdeling (1932) and Die trekboer (1934), as well as collections of short stories including Bande (1933), Najaar (1935), Uit dorp en veld (1937), Maskers (1938) and Die tien beste (1956). Jonker's other publications include Israel die sondebok (1940), Prosa-rigtings en ontledings (1940) and Nasionaal-sosialisme as godsdiens (1941). Jonker is also the author of a novel entitled Sy aard, ontstaan en soort (1942) and a translation entitled Die onherwinbare hede (1950).
The father of Ingrid Jonker is the author of this rare Afrikaans translation.
