DIETES GRANDIFLORA – Iridaceae
These are one of the favourite flowers in our garden at Lavender Haven! They are remarkable in that they all open on the same day and then remain in bloom for several days. They continue to flower regularly through much of the year. We use them to tell us when rain is due – they seem to know more than any of the weather forecasters!
These tough, drought-resistant plants will thrive in semi-shade as well as full sun, often where little else will grow. Dietes will tolerate both wind and frost and seed themselves freely. The flowers, carried on wiry, arching stems, are dainty and beautiful
