Core Premise and Story

The game is set in a near-future version of Tokyo where a massive, immersive cyberspace network called EDEN has become an integral part of everyday life. [1, 4, 5] 

• The Incident: You play as a teenager who, after a chance encounter with a mysterious hacker in a chat room, receives a "Digimon Capture" program.
• The Mystery: An encounter with a digital entity results in your physical body being left in a comatose "Digital Shift" state, while your mind remains as a semi-digital avatar with the ability to jump between the real world and cyberspace.
• The Role: You are recruited by detective Kyoko Kuremi to work as a Cyber Sleuth, solving cases involving hackers, rogue Digimon, and a larger conspiracy threatening both worlds. [1, 6, 7, 8, 9] 

Gameplay Mechanics

The gameplay is often compared to the Persona series due to its focus on urban exploration and turn-based combat. [10, 11, 12, 13] 

• Turn-Based Battles: You engage in 3-on-3 active time battles where speed and elemental/type advantages (Data, Vaccine, Virus) are critical.
• Collection and Growth: There are over 240 Digimon to collect. Instead of catching them, you "scan" them by encountering them in battle; once you reach 100% scan data, you can create them in the DigiLab.
• Digivolution: A deep evolution system allows you to Digivolve and "De-Digivolve" your partners through complex branching paths to increase their stats and learn new skills.
• DigiFarm: You can leave Digimon at a farm to train, gain experience, or find new side-cases for you to solve. [2, 3, 14, 15, 16, 17]

• Physical vs. Digital: The original Cyber Sleuth has been delisted from the PlayStation Store, meaning new players on PS4 usually need to find a physical disc to play it.
