The default mode for this device is to measure the distance to a golf pin, but it can be changed at the push of a button to measure the distance to ANYTHING in "General Mode".
Also, the buttons on this newest model are better than traditional ones because these buttons have a definite "click' to them, instead of the "rubbery" feel of the old ones.
HOW TO USE
Press the ON / Adjust Button. 
Aim the base line on the screen on a level with the green. 
Press ON/ Adjust button to lower the location of horizontal line to the top of the pin. 
The number displayed on the the top of the screen is the distance in yards.
