Dioscorea hemicrypta
Unusual succulent from the Great Karoo (South Africa) with large caudex. Out of the "foot" grows a vine with heart-shaped leaves, very similar to the better know Elephants foot (Dioscorea elephantipes) Unlike D. elephantipes this species does not go dormant and keeps growing throughout the year as long as it receives enough moisture. They are best grown in a pot and placed in a lightly shaded area. Large, mature plants can also be planted directly in the garden.
We are offering young seed grown plants which are now just over two years old. the size of it's foot is about 2cm. in diameter.
