Rare Doulton Lambeth 'Hannah Barlow' Faience Vase
This rare, fabulous, large antique 'Doulton Lambeth Faience' vase is mint condition and beautifully hand painted by one of Doulton's most important and sought after artists, 'Hannah Barlow' (18511916). It has a lovely bulbous shape encircled with dark blue bands along with a wide, hand painted panel, all against an olive-green background, each separated with thin gilt lines. The decorative panel features a country farm scene with numerous sheep grazing under trees, all beautifully hand painted and signed by 'Hannah Barlow'. The base has numerous backstamps, numbers and signatures, a round 'Crown Lambeth Ware' stamp (1891-1903), the artists 'HB' signature, the number '41' along with an 'H' in a circle and letters 'KBS' & 'BS' and impressed 'DOULTON'. The vase stands 23,5cm high, with a rough diameter of 14cm at its widest and weighs 1020g.
NOTE: 'Hannah Barlow' joined Doulton Lambeth pottery in 1871 and stayed for 42 years, producing some of their finest decorative pieces ever produced. Her pieces are seldom seen and very sought after.
